Questions, answered
Straight answers about our IT support, cyber security services and how we work across Stirling and Central Scotland.
Where is STG based and which areas do you cover?
STG (Swanswater Technology Group) is based in Stirling, Scotland. We provide on-site IT support and cyber security across the Central Belt — Stirling, Falkirk, Alloa and Clackmannanshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth — and remote support throughout Scotland and the wider UK.
What does IT support from STG include?
Our managed IT support covers day-to-day helpdesk, proactive monitoring, patching, backup and disaster recovery, Microsoft 365 administration, licensing, and infrastructure management. Every plan is security-first: endpoint protection, MFA enforcement and secure configuration are part of the baseline, not paid add-ons.
How quickly can you respond to an IT emergency in Stirling?
For clients in and around Stirling we typically respond remotely within the hour and can be on site the same day — often much faster. Across the wider Central Belt we offer same-day or next-day on-site response depending on the engagement.
Can you help my business get Cyber Essentials certified?
Yes. We are Cyber Essentials certified ourselves and guide organisations through both Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus — gap assessment, remediation of the five technical controls, evidence preparation and audit support. We also prepare clients for the stricter requirements taking effect in April 2026, including mandatory MFA on cloud services.
Do you work with small businesses or only larger organisations?
Both. Much of our work is with small and medium-sized businesses across Central Scotland — from sole practitioners to multi-site operations. Our open-source-led approach keeps enterprise-grade security affordable at small-business budgets, and our compliance and vCISO services scale up to larger organisations.
What makes STG different from other IT companies in Central Scotland?
Three things: we are security-led rather than helpdesk-led, so protection is designed in from the start; we are genuinely local, with same-day on-site support from our Stirling base; and we are discreet — we do not publish client lists or lock advice to products we resell.
Do you offer one-off projects or only ongoing contracts?
Both. Alongside managed IT and security retainers we take on defined projects: penetration tests, cloud migrations, Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001 programmes, network builds, and incident response. Many clients start with a one-off assessment and move to ongoing support afterwards.
Can you support remote and rural sites in Scotland?
Yes. We design and manage secure LTE/5G connectivity for locations without reliable broadband — solar and renewable installations, rural estates, construction sites and temporary premises — with centrally managed, locked-down routers and full lifecycle support.
How much does managed IT support cost?
Pricing depends on user count, infrastructure and the level of security and compliance you need, so we quote per engagement rather than publishing one-size-fits-none tiers. Every engagement starts with a free, no-obligation conversation and a clear written proposal — no auto-renewing lock-ins.
What is Clearview?
Clearview by Swanswater Technology Group is the platform we run our services through, and the place you log in to see what we see: your security score from the outside, the state of every computer we manage, your Microsoft 365 tenant, your compliance evidence, and who visited your website and whether they got in touch. Six hubs, one login.
Is Clearview included with STG services, or sold on its own?
Both. Every managed IT and cyber security client has Clearview as part of their service. It is also available on its own for businesses that want the visibility without a full support contract, from £35 per month per organisation.
Are the website analytics in Clearview privacy-compliant?
Yes. Measurement is first-party: no third-party cookies, no advertising trackers, and visitor data is held in the UK and never shared or sold. You see who visited and whether they got in touch, without following anyone across the internet.
What should I do if I think my business has been hacked?
Disconnect affected machines from the network (do not switch them off), preserve what you can, and contact us immediately through the contact page marking your message urgent. STG provides incident response across Central Scotland, including containment, forensic investigation and recovery — and we will tell you honestly what happened and what it takes to prevent a repeat.
